Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Rahane’s unbeaten 95 powers Mumbai to dominant win over Odisha
Lucknow: Ajinkya Rahane produced a vintage match-winning knock, smashing an unbeaten 95 to guide Mumbai to a commanding nine-wicket victory over Odisha in their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26 clash at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, here on Monday. Chasing 168, Mumbai cruised to the target in just 16 overs, riding on Rahane’s classy knock.
Put in to bat after Mumbai won the toss, Odisha posted 167 for 7 in their 20 overs. Sandeep Pattanaik scored a 26-ball 31 featuring three fours and a six, while Sambit S Baral added a fluent 28 off 23 balls with two fours and two sixes. However, Mumbai’s bowlers struck at regular intervals to prevent Odisha from building a bigger total. Suryansh Shedge was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3 for 46 from his four overs, while Sairaj B Patil supported him well with 2 for 42.
In reply, Mumbai controlled the chase from the outset. Rahane was in full command as he struck nine fours and three sixes during his 56-ball stay, scoring at a strike rate of 169.64. He found strong support in Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who remained unbeaten on 38 off 26 balls.
Odisha’s bowlers struggled to create pressure, with only Badal Biswal managing a breakthrough. He picked the lone wicket, conceding 31 runs in his four overs.
