Berhampur: The Sitalapalli campus of SUM Hospital recently conducted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme to underscore the importance of effective hospital infection control (HIC) practices. These practices, crucial for preventing infections in hospitals, encompass measures such as hand hygiene, proper utilisation of personal protective equipment, biomedical waste management, isolation precautions, and equipment sterilization.

Dr Apurba S Sastry, an infectious disease specialist and clinical microbiologist from the Jawahar Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education, Puducherry, served as the resource person. He emphasised that robust infection control practices can significantly impede the development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Recognised for his substantial contributions to research, education and clinical practices in infectious disease prevention and management, Dr Sastry shared invaluable insights during the programme.

The CME received support from Deba Prasad Dash, director of SUM Hospital, Sitalapalli campus, and was inaugurated by Dr Anand Sastry, medical superintendent of the hospital. Dr E Sanjeev Rao felicitated the resource person, while Dr Manoj Panigrahi extended the vote of thanks.
