Bhubaneswar: A 42-year-old male suffering from acute pyelonephritis, a severe bacterial infection leading to kidney inflammation and septic shock, has been successfully treated at the Phulnakhara campus of the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital.

The patient was admitted on April 3 with symptoms including fever, breathlessness, and altered sensorium. Under the expert care of Dr Gouri Shankar Ray, critical care medicine specialist, the patient was closely monitored in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Due to respiratory distress, he was intubated the following day and underwent dialysis four times. Additionally, the patient underwent Ureteroscopic Lithotripsy (URSL) to remove a kidney stone.

A dedicated team of doctors, including nephrologists and radiologists, collaborated to provide comprehensive treatment to the patient. With gradual improvement in his condition, he was successfully taken off the ventilator on April 6 and subsequently discharged from the hospital.

Expressing their gratitude, the patient’s family members thanked the team of doctors, nurses and paramedics for their exemplary care and successful treatment. According to the hospital, the patient has fully recovered and is now able to resume his day-to-day activities.
