FIFA’s U17 Women’s World Cup officially launched its mascot Ibha, an Asiatic lioness with video featuring the Konark Temple. The tournament is scheduled for next year in India with Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar being a venue.
Ibha, the mascot, translates to ‘one with good vision or judgement’ and is a strong, playful Asiatic Lioness aiming to inspire women and girls using teamwork, perseverance, kindness and by empowering others.
Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik in a tweet post, said: “Glad to know that @FIFAWWC has unveiled #U17WWC mascot #Ibha, an Asiatic lioness with video featuring the splendid #KonarkTemple. As the game is set to start next year, #Odisha welcomes you to unravel its #BestKeptSecrets, starting with magnificent #KalingaStadium as host venue.”
15 Odisha swimmers in Nationals
15 swimmers from the JSW Odisha Swimming HPC have been selected to represent Odisha in the Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior age groups, at the 74th National Aquatic Championships, to be held in Bengaluru from October 19 – 29.
Through the association of JSW Sports and Odisha Sports, effort is being made towards transforming the swimming ecosystem in Odisha by providing budding swimmers the best infrastructure, coaching and grassroots development programmes.
Basketball resumes in Bhubaneswar
Basketball action resumed in Bhubaneswar after a long time with Mukteshwar Wizards and Sikharchandi Stars emerging Division A and B boys’ champions respectively at the Toshali Basketball League at GIH, Unit-1. The girls’ title went to Sikharchandi Shooters.
