Sports roundup: Khel Ratna for Bhagat to Odisha gets Super 100 badminton tourney

Paralympics gold medallist and Odisha’s star shuttler Pramod Bhagat became the first Odia to be conferred with the highest sporting honour of the nation, Major Dhyanchand Khel Ratna Award.

While, Olympic bronze medallists, men’s hockey team players from Odisha – Amit Rohidas and Birendra Lakra will receive the prestigious Arjuna Award for their spectacular show at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Odisha Open Super 100

Odisha will be hosting the Odisha Open Super 100 from January 25-30 next year. Odisha Open Super 100 is a Badminton World Federation accredited event and will be held for the first time in Odisha.

Jigyanshu, Swetapadma shine

Cuttack boy Jigyanshu Sahoo and Bhubaneswar girl Swetapadma Dalai bagged three titles each in the 27th Odisha State Table Tennis Championships at JN Indoor Stadium, Cuttack.

Swetapadma Dalai and Urja Verma bagged U-15 and U-13 girls’ titles respectively.

While, Cuttack pair of Ankita Kanungo and Aradhya Sahoo became U-11 girls singles champion and runner-up respectively.

National Para Badminton Championship in Bhubaneswar

Para Sports Association of Odisha, with the support of DSYS, Govt. of Odisha, would host the 4th National Para Badminton Championship in Bhubaneswar, from 24-26 Dec’ 2021.

About 400 players including Paralympians will be participating in this mega event.

Mangala Club at AIFF Hero Futsal Club C’ship

Mangala Club of Cuttack will represent Odisha in the inaugural edition of the AIFF Hero Futsal Club Championship, set to be held in New Delhi from 5-13 November, 2021.

They had emerged as the Champions in the FAO Inter Club Futsal Championship that was held in the previous month.

United Sports Club emerge champion

United Sports Club, Bargarh have emerged Champions in the FAO Inter-District Club Championship 2021 by defeating Sports Hostel, Cuttack in a nail-biting final by 4-3 (aggregate) after full-time score ended on 1-1 & 3-3 (shootout).
