Speeding Lamborghini runs into pedestrians in Kanpur, six injured

Kanpur: At least six people were hurt on Sunday afternoon after a high-end Lamborghini allegedly driven by the son of a well-known tobacco businessman crashed into pedestrians and two-wheelers on VIP Road in Kanpur’s Gwaltoli area.

According to police, the accident took place around 3.15 pm near Rev-3 Mall. The luxury car, said to be driven by Shivam Mishra, son of businessman K K Mishra, reportedly went out of control and veered towards people standing by the roadside and nearby vehicles, causing chaos in the busy locality.

Eyewitnesses said the car first struck an auto-rickshaw before smashing into a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle. The impact was so severe that the rider was tossed nearly 10 feet into the air. The car then climbed onto the motorcycle’s front wheel, dragging it for a short distance before crashing into an electric pole and finally coming to a stop.

One of the injured, identified as Taufiq from Yamunaganj, was thrown several metres and suffered serious injuries to his leg. Others sustained fractures and multiple bruises.

The incident triggered outrage among locals, who quickly gathered at the scene and surrounded the vehicle, forcing the driver to remain inside. Some witnesses claimed that private security personnel accompanying him tried to disperse the crowd and behaved aggressively, which further heightened tensions.

Police teams soon reached the spot, pulled the driver out safely and shifted him along with the injured to a private hospital. The damaged Lamborghini was later seized and taken to the police station.

Tension continued at the police station, where victims and residents alleged that the accused’s associates misbehaved and that the police were not acting firmly because of the family’s influence. Some protesters also claimed there were attempts to push for a compromise and that there was a delay in filing a formal case.

Sonu Tripathi, one of the injured, said he and his cousin were standing near their parked motorcycle when the car rammed into them. “My cousin was thrown off the bike, and two others landed on the footpath. We have lodged a complaint,” he said.

Deputy commissioner of police Atul Kumar Srivastava confirmed that the vehicle has been seized and assured that appropriate action will follow based on the complaint. “The injured received primary medical care. An FIR will be registered and further legal proceedings will be carried out,” he said.

K K Mishra owns Banshidhar Exports Pvt Ltd, a company that supplies tobacco to gutkha manufacturers in the region.
