Mohammed Shami underwent surgery in his right Achilles tendon in London on Monday and will be unavailable for IPL 2024. He too may not have recovered fully to play in the T20 World, which begins five days after the IPL.
Shami shared the update of his recovery after surgery on social media and said, “Looking forward to getting back on my feet.”
He last played for India in the ODI World Cup, where he finished as the leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets in seven matches at an average of 10.70. Since the final of the World Cup on November 19, Shami has missed India’s tour of South Africa, home T20I series against Afghanistan and the ongoing five-match Test series at home. His last Test appearance was in the WTC final against Australia at The Oval last June.
His absence from IPL comes as a big blow for Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans, who will also be without Hardik Pandya after the allrounder was traded to Mumbai Indians in an all-cash deal.
