Sports roundup: Hockey selection trials of Odisha senior and junior girls for National Championships

The selection trials of Odisha senior and junior girls teams for the upcoming National Championships are in full flow at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

The senior and junior National Championships are to be held at Jhansi and Simdega respectively, later this month.

The selection committee includes chairman, OHPC, former India captain and Olympian Dilip Tirkey, Hockey India observer and former captain Sardar Singh, Olympian Sunita Lakra, former international Roshan Minz and Paulina Surin.

The camp has now been going on for more than 10 days under the tutelage of Olympian Lazarus Barla (Sr. girls team) and senior hockey coach Kalucharan Choudhury (Jr. girls team).

Sardar Singh was impressed with the skill level of the Odisha girls and encouraged them to keep up the good work.

Three from Odisha in IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Cup

Odisha’s V Ramesh Rao, Rakhal Kumar Sethy and Pujaswini Nayak have been selected to represent India at the 2021 IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Cup, scheduled to take place in Paso, Italy from Nov 18-21.

Odia bodybuilders shine

Subham Mishra became the second Odisha medallist at the 12th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship (WBPF) in Tashkent, bagging bronze in athletic physique mixed pair category.

Earlier, his statemate Chandan Sahoo had won gold in the 60kg weight category.

Delegation from West Bengal

A high level delegation from the Government of West Bengal led by additional chief secretary, Department of Youth Services & Sports, Shri Subrata Biswas, visited Kalinga Stadium Complex in Bhubaneswar to study the sports ecosystem in Odisha, particularly the hockey infrastructure set-up in the State.

The delegation conducted a detailed recce of the facilities here at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium including the High Performance Centres and were very impressed with the pioneering work done by Odisha in sports development.

“The management of the facilities here at the KalingaStadium is exemplary and we look forward to implement the same in West Bengal,” Biswas said.

Odisha FC Grassroots Tour

The second destination of OFC Grassroots Tour was Naranpur in Dhenkanal district after Gundichapada in the same district.

AFC B Diploma Coaching Course
