Cuttack: Odisha strengthened their position on day two of their Ranji Trophy clash against Baroda at the Barabati Stadium here on Thursday. After ending the opening day at 205 for 5, the hosts went on to post 271, taking a first-innings lead of 144 runs before reducing Baroda to 127 for 2 at stumps.
Dhuper and Senapati anchor Odisha innings
Resuming the day with overnight batsmen Rajesh Dhuper (76) and Subhranshu Senapati (79), Senapati fell without adding a run to his tally. Dhuper, however, carried on to play a crucial knock of 94 off 252 balls with seven fours and two sixes, holding the innings together. His composed batting ensured Odisha extended their total to 271 before being bowled out shortly after lunch.
For Baroda, A Sheth and Rasikh Salam bowled with persistence, claiming 4 for 67 and 3 for 66 respectively.
Baroda start steadily in reply
In response, Baroda made a solid start despite the deficit. Shivalik Sharma led from the front with a patient 75 off 166 balls, hitting six boundaries and a six. He was well supported by SA Pandey, who scored 32 off 114 deliveries.
By the close of play, Baroda had reached 127 for 2 in 61 overs, still trailing by 144 runs. For Odisha, Govinda Poddar was the most economical bowler, picking up 1 for 34 in 16 overs.
