Odisha is set to experience rainy weather as the state gears up to welcome the New Year. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in northern and northwestern regions due to the influence of a western disturbance, according to the Meteorological Department.

Rainfall is likely to continue on December 28 and 29, primarily affecting districts in western Odisha. Areas such as Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Sonepur are likely to witness showers today. On December 29, districts including Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi may also experience rainfall.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast a sharp drop in temperatures following the rains, signaling the return of bone-chilling cold wave conditions as January approaches. Dry weather is predicted from December 30 to January 2, accompanied by a noticeable decline in temperature.

While no significant changes in nighttime temperatures are anticipated over the next three days, the western disturbance’s residual effects are expected to bring colder days as the New Year begins.

Additionally, a yellow warning for dense fog has been issued for Balangir, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur districts today. Residents in these areas are advised to exercise caution during low-visibility conditions.
