Bhubaneswar: Odisha woke up to light drizzles and cloudy skies on Christmas morning, with cities like Bhubaneswar and Cuttack experiencing intermittent rain. The weather has disrupted local communication and movement in some areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the rain to a low-pressure system active over the Bay of Bengal near Andhra Pradesh and northern Tamil Nadu coasts. This system is expected to move northwestward and weaken gradually. As a result, southern and several other parts of Odisha will continue to witness light rain throughout the day, with moderate rainfall possible in some areas.
The IMD forecasts dry weather in the state beginning December 26. Meanwhile, no significant change in night temperatures is expected for the next 48 hours. However, from December 27, night temperatures are predicted to drop by around 3 degrees Celsius.
Additionally, western winds are likely to influence weather conditions across the country starting December 27. Light drizzles may occur in some areas before the system exits India. Following this, the chill of winter is expected to intensify across the region.
