In a significant move aimed at bolstering railway infrastructure, the Ministry of Railways has approved the establishment of a Wagon Periodic Overhauling (PoH) facility in Kantabanji, allocating a substantial budget of ₹244.77 Crore. The approval was granted by the Railway Board after careful consideration of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) submitted in September 2023.
The proposed Wagon PoH workshop, designed to accommodate 200 wagons, will be strategically located on available vacant land owned by Railways in Kantabanji. This decision responds directly to the persistent requests from local residents and public representatives who have long advocated for such a facility in the region.

The establishment of the Wagon PoH workshop brings forth several advantages, including the enhancement of freight traffic in the region through regular wagon overhauling, ensuring safe train operations. Additionally, prolonging the lifespan of wagons will contribute to cost savings by minimising the need for replacements.
Beyond cost efficiency, the wagon maintenance facility will play a pivotal role in improving overall operational efficiency and reliability. This, in turn, is anticipated to result in better performance and reduced downtime, benefiting both the railway system and the community it serves.
