Pune: The city police commissioner Amitesh Kumar has pledged to completely destroy what he called the ‘ecosystem of criminals’ operating in the city. The senior IPS officer said police would not only arrest offenders but also target those who support or glorify them.

“Pune Police will not spare anyone who crosses the line of law,” Kumar warned. “Our aim is not just to arrest criminals but to dismantle the entire network that sustains them including those providing money, shelter or social backing.”

The commissioner confirmed that an intensive crackdown has already begun against gangsters and repeat offenders in the city, known for its IT and education hubs.

When asked about fugitive gangster Nilesh Ghaywal, who fled India after obtaining a passport through fake documents, Kumar said the legal process to bring him back is in motion. Police have requested a ‘Blue Corner Notice’ through Interpol to locate him.

Kumar also questioned Ghaywal’s actions, saying he had lied in his passport affidavit by claiming no cases were pending against him. “He even forged documents to obtain a SIM card and took over flats by force,” the officer said.

The commissioner assured that Pune Police are following all procedures to ensure Ghaywal’s detention and extradition. He emphasised that criminals and their supporters will no longer be allowed to intimidate citizens and police will take strict action to ensure peace and safety across the city.
