Bhubaneswar: In a significant stride towards advancing pain management services, Pain Free Odisha has initiated the establishment of the Professional Pain Training Academy, ProPainTA. Spearheaded by renowned pain management expert, Prof (Dr) Shovan Kumar Rath, and supported by Dr Debasish Jena, the academy aims to enhance the expertise of senior doctors in pain management.

ProPainTA’s inaugural session, held from April 26th to 28th, witnessed the participation of eminent doctors from across the state. The ceremony, attended by distinguished guests including Dr Braja Kishore Dash, additional DMET, and Prof (Dr) Nibedita Pani, HOD of the Department of Anaesthesia at PGIMER & Capital Hospital, marked a significant milestone in the field of pain management in Odisha.

Speaking about the academy, Prof (Dr) Shovan Kumar Rath emphasised the need to strengthen pain management at grassroots levels by introducing Essential Pain Medicine courses for MBBS doctors, nursing students and physiotherapists. This initiative aims to empower healthcare professionals with comprehensive knowledge and skills to address chronic pain effectively.

Dr Rath, with over 14 years of experience in pain management, expressed his commitment to training doctors at the state, national and international levels. He highlighted the uniqueness of the course designed to enhance the efficiency of practicing pain specialists and elevate the quality of pain management services both within the state and beyond.

The academy, housed at Health Village Hospital in Bhubaneswar, is set to host monthly training sessions for doctors from different parts of the country. Through ProPainTA, Pain Free Odisha endeavours to create a cadre of qualified pain specialists dedicated to alleviating the pain burden in society.

ProPainTA’s mission aligns with Pain Free Odisha’s broader goal of promoting comprehensive pain management and raising awareness about non-surgical treatment modalities for chronic pain conditions. As the first comprehensive multidisciplinary pain clinic in Bhubaneswar since 2010, Pain Free Odisha continues to pioneer advancements in pain care, striving towards a pain-free society.
