Chandigarh: Punjab Police have seized more than 42 kilograms of heroin along with explosives and ammunition in Amritsar, officials said on Thursday, calling it a major crackdown on drug and arms smuggling in the region.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the recovery was made by the Amritsar Rural police with assistance from the Village Defence Committee. The operation led to the seizure of 42.983 kg of heroin, four hand grenades, a Star Mark pistol, 46 live .30 bore cartridges and an abandoned motorcycle.
Following the recovery, two men from Amritsar were arrested in connection with the case, the DGP said in a post on X.
Police said investigations are continuing to track down other suspects who may be involved. Officials are also working to establish how the consignment was sourced and transported, and to uncover the larger network behind the smuggling attempt.
