Bhubaneswar: Odisha is expected to witness more rainfall this weekend, creating additional challenges for farmers who are already dealing with significant crop losses caused by recent unseasonal rains. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in northern and northwestern districts on Saturday and Sunday due to a western disturbance.
Weather expert Umashankar Das stated that the rains are anticipated on December 28 and 29, potentially disrupting harvesting activities during a crucial period.
Farmers across the state are preparing for potential losses, with the unseasonal rain likely to impact standing crops. Many have already suffered due to recent adverse weather conditions. Authorities have urged farmers to take necessary precautions to protect their produce using available methods.
The state government has assured compensation for the affected farmers. Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari stated that the government is committed to supporting the farming community and has instructed insurance companies to process claims promptly.
“The recent rains have caused extensive damage to paddy crops, and another spell is approaching. We have directed insurance companies to act quickly, and the Agriculture and Revenue departments have begun assessing the crop losses,” Pujari said.
Farmers are advised to follow the guidelines provided by the authorities to minimize potential damage, as preparations for further rainfall continue. The state government has emphasized the timely implementation of relief measures and compensation.
