New Delhi: Union Information and Broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur has announced the establishment of a regional facilitation office for the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in Chandigarh. This would simplify the certification process for filmmakers in the region, promoting ease of doing business, he said.

During the closing ceremony of the Chitra Bharati Film Festival in Chandigarh, Thakur emphasised that filmmakers from the area can now avail the screening and certification services locally, eliminating the need to travel to Delhi or Mumbai for CBFC certificates. The move is expected to bolster the Punjabi film industry.

Thakur expressed confidence in the potential of films from the Punjab region and said, “The government has decided to set up a CBFC facilitation office in Chandigarh so that the process of getting certification becomes easier and the process of film completion becomes faster.”

Moreover, the minister highlighted government efforts to enhance accessibility for specially-abled fans in theatres. Thakur mentioned that the government is seeking input from stakeholders to formulate new guidelines ensuring that individuals with hearing and visual impairments can also enjoy films.
