Bhubaneswar: The service rendered by the SUM Ultimate Medicare (SUMUM) and SUM Covid Hospital after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic has been remarkable and incomparable, Ashok Chandra Panda, Odisha’s minister for Science and Technology, Public Enterprises, Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disability, said on Saturday.

“SUM Ultimate Medicare and SUM Covid Hospital were the pioneers in successfully tackling the Covid-19 pandemic in the state. Both the hospitals had battled the infection relentlessly and provided excellent treatment to hundreds of Covid afflicted patients to ensure their recovery,” Panda said while speaking at a Continuous Medical Education (CME) programme organised to mark the National Intensive Care Week.

Welcoming the minister, Dr. Banambar Ray, Head of the Critical Care department at SUMUM praised Panda’s contribution in the field of science and technology and the initiatives the minister had mooted to strengthen science and technology infrastructure and improve social security.

He stated that CEO Dr. Swetapadma Dash was the force behind the initiative to organise the SUMUM INTENSIVE CARE SYMPOSIUM (SICS-2022) and hailed her efforts, which enabled the hospital to get the NABH and NABL accreditation in less than two years.

Dr. Dash said the entire medical team and the Critical Care department had worked as a team during the battle against Covid.”We are witnessing the rapid expansion of fundamental knowledge in medicine in general and critical care in particular and we would be regularly organising conferences, seminars and workshops at SUMUM for the continuous medical education and benefit of the medical professionals,” Dr. Dash informed.

The programme was also addressed by Dr. Pramod Kumar Guru, Senior Consultant Nephrology and Head of the ECMO Unit at Mayo Clinic, Florida, Dr. YP Singh of Max Hospital, New Delhi and Dr. Tapas Sahu of Vedanta Hospital, Ranchi. Brig. (Dr.) Biraj Mohan Mishra, Chief, Medical Services of SUMUM and Dr. Anand Mishra, Deputy Medical Superintendent, were present.
