New Delhi: A 23-year-old man was killed and two others were injured after a Mercedes G63 SUV allegedly hit them near Ambience Mall on Nelson Mandela Marg in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj early Sunday, police said. The incident occurred around 2.33 am when a PCR call alerted the Vasant Kunj North police station.
According to police, a team reached the spot and found the luxury SUV badly damaged. Three men, aged 23, 35 and 23, all working at a restaurant inside Ambience Mall, were found injured on the roadside.
They were rushed to a nearby hospital where one of them, Rohit, a 23-year-old from Chamoli in Uttarakhand, was declared dead. The other two are receiving treatment.
Police have detained the driver, identified as Shivam, 29, a resident of Karol Bagh. He was returning home from a wedding and was travelling with his wife and elder brother when the crash occurred.
A preliminary probe indicates that the SUV lost control after a road diversion, swerved towards an auto stand and hit the three victims who were waiting for transport. The vehicle is registered in the name of Shivam’s friend Abhishek, officers said.
Police said legal proceedings have begun and further investigation is underway.
