Meerut: Police have arrested a woman here and registered a case against her daughter over allegations of illegal stay, forged documents, and suspected links to Pakistan’s intelligence agency.
The accused woman, identified as Saba Farhat, lives in the Delhi Gate area of Meerut. The action was taken after a complaint was filed by a local resident, Ruksana, who alleged that Saba had travelled to Pakistan in 1988 and married a Pakistani citizen, Farhat Masood.
According to the complaint, Saba’s daughter, Aiman Farhat, was born in Pakistan in 1993 and later brought to India using a Pakistani passport. It was further claimed that despite living and studying in India, Aiman never obtained Indian citizenship.
The complainant also accused Saba of arranging fake documents to secure an Indian passport for her daughter and of creating multiple identity papers for herself using fraudulent means.
Police said the complaint also included serious allegations that both mother and daughter were involved in spying activities for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and were collecting sensitive information.
Following an investigation led by the Additional Superintendent of Police (City), officials reportedly found forged documents in their possession. Based on these findings, an FIR was registered at Delhi Gate police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Senior superintendent of police Avinash Pandey confirmed that Saba Farhat was arrested on Monday and will be presented before a court.
