Bhubaneswar: Management students should learn the tricks of managing resources and develop the confidence and ability to take decisions while in college, Gagan Bihari Swain, Director (Finance) of Grid Corporation of Odisha Ltd (GRIDCO) said on Wednesday.

“The confidence and ability you develop while learning will shape your future,” he said while addressing the Freshers’ Induction Programme for BBA and Integrated-MBA students at the Institute of Business and Computer Science (IBCS), faculty of management sciences of SOA here.

Prof. Anup Kumar Samantaray, Dean of IBCS, highlighted the role of a manager in an organisation saying the new students would be groomed to evolve as successful managers.

Addressing the programme, Sitanshu Rath, Additional General Manager (HR), Odisha Power Generation Corporation Ltd (OPGC), shared his on-field experience saying the students should prepare themselves in a changing scenario where survival of the fittest would be the rule.

Saurabh Agarwala, Head (HR) of DCB Bank, stressed on enhancement of networking skills. “The key is to remain open to new culture and learn from everyone around you,” he told the freshers.

SOA’s Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda, who presided over the programme, urged the students to think big and think out of the box to find solutions to problems.

Prof. (Dr.) Jyoti Ranjan Das, Dean (Students’ Welfare) and Prof. (Dr.) AK Mohanty, Academic Coordinator (BBA Programme) also spoke.
