Kolkata: The Kolkata Traffic Police on Thursday announced that Vidyasagar Setu will be completely closed to vehicular movement on Sunday, November 23, from 6 am to 2 pm to facilitate critical repair and rehabilitation work.
According to officials, the Hooghly River Bridge Commissioners (HRBC) will undertake essential maintenance, including the replacement of stay cables, holding-down cables, bearings and other structural components. Authorities said the temporary shutdown is necessary to ensure long-term safety and stability of the bridge.
During the eight-hour closure, all traffic heading towards or intending to cross Vidyasagar Setu will be redirected.
A traffic police officer said westbound vehicles from AJC Bose Road and KP Road will be diverted at Hastings Crossing to alternative routes such as St George’s Gate Road, Strand Road and Howrah Bridge.
Vehicles approaching the bridge from CGR Road will also be diverted at Hastings Crossing towards St George’s Gate Road and Strand Road, the officer added.
Commuters have been advised to plan their travel accordingly and follow route diversions to avoid congestion.
