Bengaluru: The Karnataka Cabinet has given administrative approval for a three-lane twin tunnel road connecting Mehkri Circle and Hebbal Junction, aiming to reduce the heavy traffic bottlenecks that plague the stretch on a daily basis.

Briefing reporters on Thursday, law and parliamentary affairs minister HK Patil said the Urban Development Department will implement the project using the cut-and-cover tunnel method, a model chosen to ensure smoother construction in a dense urban zone.

In addition to the twin tunnels, the plan features an elevated corridor equipped with up and down ramps to facilitate uninterrupted vehicle movement along this key arterial route.

The entire infrastructure package has been approved at an estimated cost of Rs 2,215 crore, marking one of the state’s most significant urban mobility investments in recent years.
