Kalahandi Cup: Manav, Govinda, Kartik slam centuries

Cuttack: In a Kalahandi Cup Super League two-day match between ECORSA and Cuttack-A at Ravenshaw Ground-1 on Wednesday. ECORSA won the toss and opted to field first. Cuttack-A capitalised on this decision, by posting a formidable total of 327 for 7 in their allotted 90 overs. Manav Bhattacharya was the standout performer with the bat, scoring a patient yet commanding 118 off 208 balls. He was well supported by Rajesh Dhupar, who played a brisk innings of 81 from 86 balls and Bikram K. Samal, who contributed with a steady 55 off 89 balls.

For ECORSA, Surya Kant Pradhan was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets for 78 runs, while Jayanta K. Behera provided valuable support with figures of 2 for 82 in his 31 overs.

In reply, ECORSA managed to score 250 runs in 50 overs before being bowled out. Surya Kant shone with the bat as well, scoring a resilient 106 not out off 101 balls. Malay K. Jena also made a notable contribution with a quickfire 45 off 45 balls. However, their efforts were not enough to surpass Cuttack-A’s total. Biswajit K. Mohapatra was the chief destroyer for Cuttack-A, claiming 5 wickets for 81 runs in his 14 overs. He was ably supported by Spandan Sabat, who took 2 wickets for 39 runs in his 6 overs. Cuttack-A emerged victorious by 77 runs.

Match 2: Nayagarh vs Rest of Odisha-A at DRIEMS Stadium

The second match in the day that was played at the DRIEMS Stadium here saw Nayagarh taking on Rest of Odisha-A. Rest of Odisha-A won the toss and decided to field first, a decision that paid immediate dividends. Nayagarh struggled with the bat, collapsing to 58 all out in just 24.5 overs. Krushna C. Barik was the only batsman to show some resistance, scoring 27 off 41 balls. The bowling hero for Rest of Odisha-A was Tarani Sa, who delivered an exceptional performance, taking 7 wickets for a mere 13 runs in 9.5 overs. Vimal Kumar also contributed with the ball, taking 2 wickets for 13 runs in his 7 overs.

Rest of Odisha-A’s response with the bat was not very strong either, but they managed to score 125 runs in 35.4 overs, which was enough to secure the win. Maroju Prashant was the top scorer with 58 off 62 balls, and Prabin K. Luha added a useful 32 off 44 balls. For Nayagarh, Dillip K. Panda bowled brilliantly, taking 5 wickets for 35 runs, while Dillip K. Jena chipped in with 3 wickets for 27 runs. Despite Nayagarh’s efforts, Rest of Odisha-A won the match by 67 runs.

Match 3: Bhubaneswar-A vs Balasore at Barabati Stadium

The third match featured Bhubaneswar-A and Balasore at Barabati Stadium. Balasore won the toss and chose to field first. Bhubaneswar-A took full advantage of the conditions, amassing a huge total of 370 runs in 89.2 overs. The highlight of their innings was a magnificent 146 off 148 balls by Kartik Biswal, who anchored the innings superbly. Saransh Kumar also played a significant innings, scoring 61 off 109 balls. Balasore’s bowlers toiled hard, with Udayanath Patra taking 4 wickets for 86 runs and Sarbeswar Mohanty contributing with 2 wickets for 25 runs.

In their response, Balasore could only muster 105 runs in 38.4 overs, falling well short of the target. Sarbeswar Mohanty top-scored with a quick 31 off 32 balls, while Udayanath Patra remained unbeaten on 17 off 26 balls. Bhubaneswar-A’s bowlers were relentless, with Ritesh Priyaranjan leading the attack with figures of 5 for 27. Sovan S. Swain also delivered an impressive performance, taking 2 wickets for just 8 runs. Bhubaneswar-A won the match convincingly by 265 runs.

Match 4: Bhadrak vs Rest of Odisha-B at Sunshine Ground

The final match on Wednesday was between Bhadrak and Rest of Odisha-B at Sunshine Ground. Bhadrak won the toss and elected to bat. However, their decision backfired as they were bowled out for 123 in 29.5 overs. Kshyama S. Bal was the lone warrior for Bhadrak, scoring an unbeaten 52 off 67 balls, while Satyakam Bharadwaj contributed 19 off 18 balls. Rest of Odisha-B’s bowlers were impressive, with Ashish Rai taking 4 wickets for 47 runs in 13 overs and Ayaskant Sahu taking 3 wickets for 33 runs in 9 overs.

In reply, Rest of Odisha-B put up a commanding batting display, scoring 430 all out in 80.2 overs. Govinda Poddar played a brilliant innings, scoring 135 off 105 balls, and was well supported by Om T. Munde, who scored 111 off 135 balls. Sawan Pahariya also made a valuable contribution with 69 off 85 balls. Bhadrak’s bowlers struggled to contain the opposition, with Satyakam Bharadwaj taking 4 wickets for 107 runs and Kishan Manohar Mohanty taking 3 wickets for 124 runs. Rest of Odisha-B won the match by a massive 307 runs.
