Kalahandi Cup 2026: Angul, Puri and Cuttack-A register dominant wins
The day two of the Kalahandi Cup 2026 second phase preliminary league witnessed a mix of dominant wins and confident chases across venues.
At Railway Ground, Jatni, Angul outclassed Bhadrak with a commanding nine-wicket victory. Batting first, Bhadrak were bowled out for 131 in 49.2 overs, with Amreet Upadhyaya top-scoring with 30 off 54 balls. Akash Pradhan led the charge with the ball, returning figures of 3 for 22. In reply, Angul made light work of the target, cruising to 132 for 1 in 37.1 overs. Panakala Sasanka anchored the innings with an unbeaten 61 off 110 deliveries as Angul sealed the win comfortably.
At BJB School Ground, Khordha, Puri chased down a stiff target against Bhubaneswar-B. Bhubaneswar-B posted 241 for 7 in 47 overs, powered by Ayush Sutar’s 95 off 104 balls and a brisk unbeaten 50 from Bishal Priyadarshi off 38 deliveries. However, Puri responded strongly, reaching 242 for 3 in 43.3 overs. Binaya K Paikaray struck a composed 73 off 92 balls, while Mayank Pattanayak’s quickfire 56 off 28 tilted the game decisively in Puri’s favour as they won by seven wickets.
At DRIEMS Cricket Ground, Bargarh registered a six-wicket win over Mayurbhanj. Mayurbhanj were bowled out for 144 in 37.5 overs, with Rohan K Sahoo scoring 24. Ajit K Yadav impressed with the ball, claiming 3 for 23. Bargarh chased the target steadily, reaching 145 for 4 in 30.4 overs, thanks to an unbeaten 64 from Rohan Kumar.
Keonjhar pulled off a strong chase against Balasore at Sunshine Ground. Balasore made 245 in 40.2 overs, highlighted by Nauttam Bhanja’s explosive unbeaten 76 off just 43 balls. In response, Keonjhar reached 249 for 4 in 45.1 overs. Ruturaj Mohanty starred with a well-compiled 91 off 93 balls, while Subhranshu S Senapati added an unbeaten 62 to secure a six-wicket victory.
At MGM Ground, Kalahandi defended their total successfully against Jagatsinghpur. After opting to bat, Kalahandi posted 252 for 9 in 50 overs, with Subham Dash scoring a brisk 67 off 55 balls. Jagatsinghpur were bowled out for 190 in 41.5 overs despite Soubhagya Mishra’s fighting 77. Ashutosh Kumar was instrumental with the ball, taking 4 for 47, as Kalahandi won by 62 runs.
Kandhamal secured a four-wicket win over Nuapada at Centurion University Ground. Nuapada managed 162 in 46 overs, with Bipul Panigrahi contributing 51. Kandhamal chased down the target with relative comfort, reaching 165 for 6 in 41.3 overs. Rasmi R Sahoo remained unbeaten on 52 off 64 balls to guide his team home.
Cuttack-A delivered one of the most dominant performances of the day at Ravenshaw Ground-1. They posted a formidable 309 for 7 in 50 overs against Jharsuguda, with Anil Parida (72 off 54), Rajesh Dhupar (63 off 68), Biplab Samantray (58 off 35) and Saideep Mohapatra (54 off 71) all making key contributions. Jharsuguda were then restricted to 157 in 41.2 overs, as Sambit K Beja picked up 3 for 24, handing Cuttack-A a comprehensive 152-run win.
At Ravenshaw Ground-2, Ganjam defeated KIIT by 94 runs. Ganjam made 210 in 48.3 overs, with Soumya R Biswal scoring 63 and B Santosh Kumar adding 50. KIIT struggled in reply and were bowled out for 116 in 32.2 overs. Rohit Sagar was the standout performer, producing a devastating spell of 5 for 11.
Finally, at Adashpur Ground, Gajapati eased past Rayagada by nine wickets. Rayagada were dismissed for 131 in 40.3 overs, with Subham Routo claiming a brilliant 5 for 19. Gajapati chased the target confidently, finishing at 132 for 1 in 33.5 overs, led by Gyanaranjan Jena’s unbeaten 64.
