The Friday night IPL 2021 final will be a battle between experience and resilience. Chennai Super Kings have the astute captain in MS Dhoni while on the other hand Kolkata Knight too got a cool captain in Eoin Morgan.

When Chennai will heavily depend on Ruturaj Gaikwad and the batting revolving around him, Kolkata will bank on their two young openers and the spin trio. It is going to be a riveting contest.

Chennai have played more finals while Kolkata have won previously won both the finals under Gautam Gambhir. But with Dhoni, Chennai will have the edge.

Kolkata’s main arsenal are its three spinners – Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy and Shakib Al Hasan, and it has to be seen how the Chennai batsmen handle them. But will Kolkata persist with Shakib if Andre Russell makes a return?

Chennai would like their openers Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis to fire upfront and the batsmen after them have the experience to handle the pressure, with each having different roles to play. In the ranks they have all the experience in ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina, Moeen Ali, Dhoni, Robin Uthappa, Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo.

Their bowling too is packed with experience and skill, such as Josh Hazlewood, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur.

Meanwhile, it won’t be fair to write off Kolkata, they too have a calm and composed skipper in Eoin Morgan who has won a World Cup. But his form with the bat has been a concern.

Head-to-head: Chennai have beaten Kolkata 16 times out of 24 matches.
