Bhubaneswar: The School of Women’s Studies and Department of History, Utkal University in collaboration with The Asiatic Society for Social Science Research (ASSSR), New Delhi, has successfully conducted an international seminar on ‘Empowerment of Women in Revitalizing World: Past & Present’, held from February 23-25.

International and national research scholars attended the inaugural function held at the MKCG auditorium of Utkal University. Ashu J, president, ASSSR, Dr. Pramod Kumar Ray, vice -president, ASSSR, Prof Bhagban Prakash (senior advisor to Election Commission of India) as the Chief Guest, Dr. Abhaya Kumar Nayak (Registrar, Utkal University) as the guest of honour and Aditya Vashishtha as the chief speaker were among others.

Professor Jayanti Dora, director of Women’s Studies and HoD of History department, Utkal University (convener), Dr. Charu Arya, convener, ASSSR, Leivon Alur Kom, co-convener, ASSSR together coordinated the programme successfully for three days.

Eminent resource persons such as Dr. Lalitendu Jagatdeb (executive director, Chetanya Kasyap Foundation, New Delhi), Prof Devender Singh (Department of English University of Delhi), Dr. Chandrakant Mandlik (Principal, Mahatma Phule Nutan Mahavidyalaya, Mirajgaon,, Maharashtra), Dr. Sudhanshu Sekhar Nayak (principal, Podar International School, Pune) and Prashanta Chandra Panda (NIRMA University, Ahmedabad) were present on the occasion.

Along with them, Manas Ranjan Samal (additional secretary, GA department, Govt. of Odisha), Prof Manoj Kar (public policy and governance, XIM University, Bhubaneswar) and Dr. Niranjan Sahoo (senior fellow, Observer Research Foundation, New Delhi) delivered their lectures on the theme.

The programme was followed by paper presentations in three different sessions on separate themes on women empowerment and was chaired by senior faculties from University of Delhi, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Utkal University among others. The delegates and conveners believed that the programme would make an impact in policy making on women empowerment and gender equality and this journey will continue in the remaining days.
