Industrial interactive workshop held at SOA

Participants, guests and speakers at the conclusion industrial interactive workshop.

Bhubaneswar: The need for preparing graduates in the field of science and technology by inculcating various skills required by the industry was stressed at a day-long industrial interactive workshop on ‘Recent Developments and Challenges in Core Industries’ held at Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) on Saturday.

Around 130 participants attended the workshop which focused primarily on subjects like emerging areas of renewable energy, future challenges of work, workforce and workplace in manufacturing industries, challenges which obstruct the improvement of core industries, opportunities of smart manufacturing and application of data science, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in industries.

The workshop was organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), SOA’s faculty of engineering and technology.

Priya Ranjan Prasad, managing director, Brahmani River Pellets Limited, Kalinga Nagar, Dr Sachikanta Kar, head of Department, Quality and Consultancy, CTTC, Bhubaneswar and Mr. Sanat Kumar Mishra, Director and CEO, Sunstone Solar Solutions Pvt. Ltd, Bhubaneswar, Rajiv Sharma, general manager, HR and administration, Sree Metaliks and Navraj Singh, training head, GMR Power Plant, Dhenkanal were the resource persons who discussed about the career prospects for engineering students.

Prof PK Sahoo, dean, ITER welcomed the participants and Prof JK Nath, SOA’s dean (Research and Development) spoke about the opportunities in core industries. Prof Sujit Kumar Dash, head, Training and Placement, stressed on multi-disciplinary learning of the students.

Prof Renu Sharma, additional dean (Student Affairs) and Prof DN Thatoi, additional dean (Academics) highlighted the necessity to understand the inter-dependence between industries and institutions.

Dr J Nanda, convenor of the workshop, said more such workshops would be organised in the future for the exposure of students as it would provide them a platform to facilitate meaningful interaction with industry experts. The workshop was organised under the guidance of Prof Saroj Acharya, head of Department. Dr Sasmeeta Tripathy, Prof SA Ohid and Prof Sashendra Sahoo were the co-convenors of the workshop.
