India and Pakistan match in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Dubai on Sunday. Pakistan thrashed India by 10 wickets. Thanks for tuning in to this space on CityBuzz.click.

Pakistan innings:

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan ace the run-chase as Pakistan thrash India by 10 wickets. This is Pakistan’s first win against India across T20 and fifty-over World Cups. Rizwan remained unbeaten on 79 and Babar not out on 68 as Pakistan gunned down the target in 17.5 overs. What a show both the openers put up, not to forget the spell of Shaheen Shah Afridi. Pakistan have finally broken the World Cup jinx.

17.1 overs: Six. Full toss and Rizwan hoicks it for a six. Pakistan need 7 off 16 balls.

14.2 overs: Four. Short from Bumrah and Rizwan pulls it for a boundary, and also gets to his fifty. Top show from both the openers, they have batted India out of the match.

13.6 overs: Match slipping away from India as Babar Azam has raised the ante with another big over and this time off Jadeja, conceding 11 runs. Pakistan 112/0, Rizwan two runs away from his fifty.

12.4 overs: Six. This time Babar with another six in the over off Varun, gets to his fifty. A big over from the spinner, 16 off it.

9.6 overs: Pakistan are surely ahead in this game with 71 for no loss at the end of 10 overs, chasing India’s target of 152. Babar batting on 34 and Rizwan on 35.

8.5 overs: Six. Short and flat from Jadeja and Babar puts it in the deep midwicket crowd. That would have released some pressure for Pakistan.

4.6 overs: Shami concedes a big over, 11 off it. India need to apply the squeeze as they search for the first breakthrough.

3.6 overs: Brilliant first over from Varun, just gives two runs. Kept the batsmen guessing. Pakistan have started really well. India need wickets to put them under the pump.

There is definitely dew on the ground and so the toss was crucial. Varun Chakravarthy into the attack.

After Shami’s second over, Bhuvneshwar taken off, Bumrah replaces him.

0.6 overs: A big over from Bhubaneswar Kumar, 10 runs off it, which included a four and a six by Mohammad Rizwan. These two openers could be dangerous once set. India needs to take them out early to make a game out of it.

India innings:

19.6 overs: 151 for 7. India would take that score after the kind of start they got in the PowerPlay. But all credit to Virat Kohli for playing that knock of 57, with Shaheen Afridi doing the damage early on. Can Indian bowlers make a game out of it? Not to forget the contribution of Rishabh Pant, who put up a crucial fifty-run stand with the skipper.

18.4 overs: Afridi back into the attack and strikes with the wicket of Kohli for 57. But what an innings from the skipper. Can India finish with a flourish?

17.5 overs: OUT. Ali foxes Jadeja (13) with a slower one as he holes out. Hardik Pandya out in the middle.

17.2 overs: Four. Kohli plays it over the infield with no sweeper cover manning that region.

17.1 overs: Kohli gets two runs off Ali, and gets to his fifty, a real captain’s innings.

15.4 overs: Four. A delightful extra cover drive from Kohli. The Indian skipper has moved to 46 with that boundary.

14.6 overs: That was an excellent over from Shadab, just four runs off it. India 100/4.

12.2 overs: OUT. Just when Pant was looking dangerous, Shadab Khan strikes. A googly and Pant goes for the slog and top edges for Shadab to take the catch of his own bowling.

11.3 overs: Six. Another one-handed six over long off from Pant. He makes it look so effortless.

11.2 overs; Six. On the legs from Hasan Ali and Pant flicks it over deep square, almost one-handed.

10.6 overs: Not a bad over to start with, just six runs off it from Rauf. It looks like Kohli and Pant have set a target after having accessed the pitch.

Haris Rauf into the attack.

9.6 overs: Half-way through the innings and with Pant’s arrival, India look in control and in these UAE pitches even 140-150 score would be a fighting one. India 60/3 (Kohli 26*, Pant 19*).

8.6 overs: A bad delivery from Shadab Khan and Pant puts it away for a boundary. Fifty up for India.

7.3 overs: A review for caught behind has been taken. Pant the batsman. Rizwan was confident and forced Babar Azam to go for the review. But UltraEdge shows no spike.

5.4 overs: OUT. Bowling change and Hasan Ali strikes straightaway with the scalp of Suryakumar Yadav, caught brilliantly by Rizwan behind the wickets. India three down.

4.6 overs: Kohli and Suryakumar in control now after the two wickets. India 30/2.

4.5 overs: Three dot balls, Kohli gives the charge and deposits Afridi over long on.

2.1 overs: OUT. Afridi strikes again and this time with an unplayable inswinger to shatter thr stumps. India two down.

It will be spin from the other end, left-arm spinner Imad Wasim. Just four runs conceded by the left-arm spinner.

0.6 overs: What a start from Afridi, gives two runs and bags the big wicket of Rohit Sharma. India 2/1.

0.4 overs: OUT. Afridi strikes and sends back Rohit Sharma for a golden duck., trapped leg before. India 1/1.

0.3 overs: India off the mark with a quick single. Shaheen Afridi starts with two dot balls.

* Anthems done. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma walk out to the middle to start India’s innings as Babar Azam sets the field. Shaheen Afridi to start the proceedings. All set for the big game. Just before the first ball is bowled, Indian players take the knee.

* Who will be India’s sixth bowler? Hardik Pandya confirmed that he won’t be bowling in the match, so that leaves out India with five bowlers.

* Virat Kohli: “We are pretty happy with setting the target. We would have bowled first too, but the toss is not in your control. We are pretty balanced with our squad and you need to be prepared for it.”

* India XI: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli(c), Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant(w), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Varun Chakaravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah

* Pakistan XI: Babar Azam(c), Mohammad Rizwan(w), Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali, Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali, Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi

* Team news: Ishan Kishan, Rahul Chahar, Ravichandran Ashwin and Shardul Thakur have been left out by India. Shami, Bhuvneshwar, Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy and Jadeja make up the bowling. The finisher role will be on Jadeja.

* Pakistan won the toss and have opted to bowl.

* People are back in the stands, Laxman and Steyn say the “atmosphere is electric”. Both the captains are out for the toss.

* An interesting stat, Virat Kohli is never dismissed in a World T20 match against Pakistan.

* The presence of MS Dhoni as mentor in the Indian camp would be a big plus, but the battle would be all about India’s batting up against Pakistan’s bowling.

* The excitement to the build-up to the big clash of the T20 World Cup 2021 is palpable. The toss exactly one-hour away from now.

* We are less than two hours from the start to the big clash. Will India pick Varun Chakravarthy ahead of R. Ashwin? Will Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli open for India?

* In head-to-head record in T20Is, India have the edge with seven wins. The trick for India would be to pick the right XI for the big clash. There will be a toss-up for places between R Ashwin and Varun Chakravarthy and same would be between Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Preview: India gets off their T20 World Cup campaign in a high-pressure game against arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday.

Both the teams due to diplomatic tensions no more engage in bilateral series but do clash in ICC events. Prior to the start to this match, there were even calls from a section of Indian people to cancel the game. But as things stand for now, the match looks to go ahead.

Going by record, India have never lost to Pakistan in World Cups, be it in the T20 or the 50-over format.

On paper, India will start as favourites, with MS Dhoni present in the camp as a mentor, but with Pakistan nothing can be taken for granted as they can spring a surprise on their day. The 2017 Champions Trophy final would serve as a big example.

The Indian players are not short of match practice and also very familiar with the conditions after having just finished the UAE-leg of the Indian Premier League. The likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant make up a strong batting unit, but concern would be of having a sixth bowler if Hardik Pandya is included purely as a batter.

The bowling department looks solid and got experience in Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin and Varun Chakravarthy – who India may use as a trump card.

For Pakistan, the key players will be Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi, then they have the experience of Shoaib Malik and Mohammed Hafeez. But come Sunday at 7:30 PM, it will be all nerves for the players and for the fans of both the countries.
