Iconic Week of ‘Azadi Ki Rail Gadi Aur Station’ concludes

A freedom fighter being felicitated on the concluding day of ‘Azadi Ki Rail Gadi Aur Station’ event.

The celebration of Iconic Week of “Azadi Ki Rail Gadi Aur Station” by East Coast Railway (ECoR) that started from July 18 concluded on Saturday (July 23).

The Iconic Week of “Azadi Ki Rail Gadi Aur Station” was a part of the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” being celebrated by Government of India, to mark 75 years of India’s Independence.

75 railway stations across India were identified for the celebration of ‘Azadi ki Rail Gadi aur Station”. Under Khurda Road Division, Khurda Road, Cuttack and Sakhigopal; Sambalpur and Visakhapatam were identified for the purpose.

During the week-long celebrations, various programmes like street plays, patriotic song and dance, instant quiz, selfie points, illumination of railway stations, audio/video display of brief history of freedom fighters, 3D cutouts of freedom fighters, light and sound programmes were organised at all the above railway stations, to make the general public aware of the great sacrifices made by our freedom fighters.

As part of the conclusion of iconic week celebrations, closing ceremony organised at Khurda Road Railway Station where ECoR Principal Chief Electrical Engineer Basudev Panda, and Divisional Railway Manager, Khurda Road Rinkesh Roy felicitated four freedom fighters/their family members and nine members of descendants of ‘Paika Rebellion’ martyrs.

Speaking on the occasion, Panda said that all the departments of ECoR actively participated in the week-long celebrations of “Azadi Ki Rail Gadi Aur Station”.

After the completion of the programmes, all the five railway stations were connected with the central function held at New Delhi through video conferencing.

The central function at the national capital was led by Prahallad Joshi, the Minister of Parliamentary affairs, Coal and Mines of India. The Union Minister interacted with Mayadhar Malik, the freedom fighter present at Khurda Road Railway Station, through video conferencing, along with other freedom fighters present at various railway stations over Indian Railways.
