Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Thursday carried out a major anti-encroachment drive in Khanamet, reclaiming around 11 acres of government land valued at nearly Rs 2,200 crore.
The action came after local residents raised complaints through HYDRAA’s public helpline about illegal occupation of government land in the area. Acting on the complaints, the agency conducted an inquiry on January 31. The meeting was attended by revenue officials as well as those accused of encroaching on the land.
During the inquiry, revenue authorities examined satellite images and confirmed that the land had indeed been encroached upon.
After giving prior notice and time to those occupying the land, HYDRAA removed temporary sheds, small shops and other structures built on the property.
According to the agency, the drive not only freed up 11 acres of government land but also protected an adjacent lake area. With this action, government assets worth about Rs 2,200 crore have been secured, HYDRAA said.
