H3N2 Influenza can cause respiratory illness in humans.

With India reporting two deaths and 90 cases so far, H3N2 influenza, also known as the “Hong Kong flu”, is a subtype of the influenza A virus that can cause respiratory illness in humans.

Symptoms of H3N2 influenza are similar to those of other types of influenza and can include:

Fever or chills
Cough
Sore throat
Runny or stuffy nose
Body aches
Fatigue
Headache

The severity of symptoms can vary from person to person, with some people experiencing only mild illness while others may develop more severe complications such as pneumonia or respiratory failure.

Treatment for H3N2 influenza typically involves managing symptoms and preventing complications. This may include:

Resting and staying hydrated
Taking over-the-counter medications to relieve fever, aches, and other symptoms
Antiviral medications such as oseltamivir (Tamiflu) or zanamivir (Relenza), which may be prescribed by a healthcare provider if the illness is severe or if the person is at high risk for complications
Getting vaccinated against the flu to prevent infection in the first place.

It’s important to seek medical attention if one experiences severe symptoms, especially with underlying health conditions or are at higher risk for complications from the flu.
