An international webinar on the topic “Groundwater and its sustainable management”, was organised by the Department of Geology of Fakir Mohan University in Balasore on Monday.
Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy, vice chancellor of Fakir Mohan University inaugurated the webinar. Prof. Munesh Chandra Adhikary, chairman, PG Council of the university and Prof. Madhumita Das, ex-vice chancellor of the University joined the webinar as Guest of Honour.
At the start, Dr. Nandita Mahanta, head of the Department of Geology enlightened the participants about the theme of the webinar and introduced the participants to the guests. Arun Kumar Naik, joint secretary of the webinar proposed the formal vote of thanks in the inaugural function.
Moreover, the first ever newsletter of the Geology Department “The Amethyst” was also released by the vice chancellor during the webinar, which will serve as a quarterly newsletter.
J. Francis Lawrence, Professor of Hydrology, Adama Science and Technology University, Ethiopia, addressed the participants on the topic “Application of Isotopes in Groundwater Management”.
Prof. V Sudarshan, UGC BSR Faculty Fellow, Department of Applied Geochemistry, Osmania University, Hyderabad enlightened the participants about the “Environmental significance of trace elements in Ground water.”
Prof. HK Sahoo, Professor of Geology (Retd.), Utkal University, Bhubaneswar delivered a talk on “Groundwater Quality degradation with special reference to Odisha”.
Dr Asim Amitabh Pradhan, organising secretary of the webinar moderated the programme. Prangya Paramita Pahi, a second semester student proposed the formal vote of thanks in the technical session.
Sayan Kumar Manna, Biswanath Sahoo and Raumya Ranjan Swain extended all technical support to the webinar.
