Bengaluru: Bengaluru police have registered a case against a former senior employee of an IT company for allegedly stealing proprietary software source code estimated to be worth around Rs 87 crore.

The accused, Ashutosh Nigam, had been working as a ssenior manager-research scientist with Amadeus Software Labs India Pvt Ltd since February 1, 2020.

According to the FIR, Nigam allegedly accessed and transferred the company’s confidential source code and related software data on October 11, 2025, without authorisation. The complaint states that he moved the data from the company’s system to his personal email account without obtaining the required approvals.

Police said that when the company confronted him with its internal findings, records and reports, he admitted to transferring the source code. The company has claimed that his statement was recorded on video.

Following the internal inquiry, Nigam’s employment was terminated on December 3, 2025.

In its complaint, the company stated that the software, including the source code, is valued at approximately 8 million Euros (around Rs 87 crore). It further alleged that the unauthorised transfer of the source code has caused significant business losses and compromised its intellectual property rights.

Based on the complaint filed by a company representative, a case was registered at the Whitefield CEN Crime police station on January 23 under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act. Further investigation is currently in progress.
