Bhubaneswar: A five-day sports meet of SUM Ultimate Medicare (SUMUM), titled ‘Sumumnoya’, believed to be the first of its kind organised by a corporate hospital in Odisha, kicked off here on Thursday.
The meet was inaugurated by hockey Olympian and president of Hockey India Dilip Tirkey who said that it would not only keep the hospital personnel including doctors, nurses and paramedics fit but also promote team spirit among them.
Tirkey said sports helped people to keep fit and it was necessary for the youth to strive in this direction. SUMUM’s chief executive officer Dr Swetapadma Dash said it was for the first time that any corporate hospital in the state has organised such an event for its employees.
The competitions include cricket, volleyball, badminton, 100 metre race, tug of war, three legged race, lemon spoon, carrom and musical chair. Altogether 10 teams — Arora Avengers, Phonex Phantoms, Fusion Force, Celestial Crushers, Zenith Zilts, Nebula Nomads, Galaxy Gladiators, Quantum Quashers, Swift Strikers and Rogue Riders — are participating in different events.
