EZIU cricket tournament: MSCB University outplay Kalyani, BHU and Calcutta post emphatic wins

Cuttack: Several one-sided contests and standout individual performances marked the latest round of matches in the East Zone Inter University (EZIU) Cricket Tournament, played across multiple venues on Thursday.

At Ravenshaw Ground 2, MSCB University defeated the University of Kalyani by 29 runs. MSCB posted a competitive 177 for 6, led by Jay Kumar’s explosive 75 off 38 balls, which included seven fours and five sixes. In reply, Kalyani were bowled out for 148, despite Sauvik Haldar’s valiant 72 off 45 balls.

In another match at the same venue, Dibrugarh University registered a dominant nine-wicket victory over BC Krishi Viswavidyalaya. BCKV were bundled out for just 52, with Chinmoy Bargohain returning impressive figures of 3 for 9. Dibrugarh then chased down the target comfortably, scoring 53 for 1.

At Ravenshaw Ground 1, the University of Calcutta cruised to a six-wicket win over Selcom Skill University. SSU managed 121 for 8, but Calcutta chased it down in just 12.3 overs, powered by Soumyajit Mondal’s blistering 69 off 32 balls, which featured six fours and seven sixes.

Sambalpur University also enjoyed an easy outing, beating Patna University by eight wickets. Patna were dismissed for 59 in 13.4 overs, as Abhinab Nanda produced a sensational spell of 5 for 14. Sambalpur reached 65 for 2 in just 8.3 overs to seal the win.

At the Driems Ground, Banaras Hindu University chased down a stiff target with ease, defeating Magadh University by eight wickets. Magadh posted 219 for 5, thanks to twin half-centuries from Ankush Raj (75 off 41 balls) and Praveen Roy (75 off 45 balls). However, BHU responded strongly, reaching 220 for 2, with Siddhanta Pathak smashing an unbeaten 41 off just eight balls, including six sixes.

In another match at the venue, Veer Kunwar Singh University defeated AB Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya by six wickets. ABVU were bowled out for 123, with Ashish Kumar picking up four wickets. VKSU chased down the target comfortably, led by Anubhav Singh’s steady 56 off 48 balls.

Meanwhile, at the MGM Ground, B.R.A. Bihar University secured a 47-run victory over T.M. Bhagalpur University. B.R.A.BU scored 141 for 8, before restricting Bhagalpur to 94 for 8, with Braj Bihari starring with the ball, claiming 3 for 11.

In the final match of the day, Kolhan University edged past S.P. Mukharjee University by four wickets. SP Mukharjee University posted 148 for 4, but Kolhan held their nerve to reach 149 for 6, with Chetan Kumar contributing with the ball, picking up 2 for 17.
