Living sustainably in harmony with nature is the only choice for a better environment, said East Coast Railway (ECoR) general manager Sharad Kumar Srivastav on Sunday.
He was participating in the awareness drive with railway employees on environmental issues in trains and in railway premises.
Srivastav also appealed to all the employees and their children to work for a better environment and help to control pollution in their own little way.
The staff and officers of East Coast Railway, led by senior officials along with heads of departments participated in a massive tree plantation programme on railway premises in Chandrasekharpur area, organised as a part of World Environment Day.
Tree plantation programmes were also organised in Khurda Road, Waltair and Sambalpur Divisions to make railway premises environment friendly.
To mark World Environment Day, awareness drives and a painting competition were organised to sensitise the general public on environmental issues.
Children were also encouraged to plant saplings and to take care of these saplings.
Apart from this, street play (Nukkad Natak) was also organised.
