ECoR fills up 16,405 vacant posts in last eight years

East Coast Railway (ECoR) has filled up 16,405 vacant posts in last eight years through recruitment drives by Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) and Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC).

Railway is aware about the sensitive matter regarding safety in train operations, and ECoR is consistently monitoring its workforce and taking necessary steps for filling up of vacant posts.

Despite the challenges of Covid-19 epidemic, ECoR has increased its employee’s strength from 45,507 as on 1st April 2019 to 47,331 as on 1st January, 2023.

5259 candidates were appointed in East Coast Railway in Level 1 posts during last eight years and the recruitment process was done by Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC). Apart from Level 1 posts, 11,146 candidates got appointment in East Coast Railway in different categories in last 08 years.

All the above posts include primarily safety category posts and a few common general posts. These apart, recruitment process is also in final stage for filling up 2,858 vacancies in ECoR by RRBs and RRC in various levels including maximum numbers in safety categories.

As a result, the percentage of vacancies to total sanctioned staff strength in ECoR has been reduced from 17.3 per cent as on 1st April 2019 to 14.9 per cent as on 1st January, 2023. This indicates that the vacancies are being filled up on regular basis in East Coast Railway.
