DR College wins inter-college women’s basketball tournament

Bhubaneswar: In the inter-college women’s basketball tournament organised by Utkal University, DR College, Nayapalli emerged as champions while BJB Autonomous College finished runner-up.

The tournament was inaugurated by Dr. Avaya Kumar Nayak, registrar, Utkal University on Thursday. Teams from three colleges under Utkal University participated in the tournament while students from five colleges took part in the trials.

Dr. Kirti Ranjan Mallick, vice-president, PG Athletic Club organised the tournament on behalf of director, Sports Council, Utkal University.

In the inaugural function, Dr. Nayak lauded individual players and the teams for their enthusiasm and spirit for the game.

In the validictory session, Prof. Durga Shankar Pattanik, chairman, PG Council was the chief guest, who told the players to win matches in a fair manner.

He also gave away the trophies to the winners and certificates to all the individual players.

Chaturbhuj Jena coordinated the tournament with match officials Md. Syed, DP Sahoo, Prahlad Panda, Dr. Benudhar Das and Chiranjeev Karan. Also, selectors Smarita Samantaray and Dr. Prabir Mohanty were present to pick players for the inter-university matches.

Dr. Mallick thanked Prof. SS Debashis, director Sports Council, Ambica Prasad Ray and Shakti Ranjan Senapati for extending support.
