New Delhi: Delhi Police seized demonetised currency worth several crores during a raid in the Wazirpur area of north Delhi, officials said on Wednesday.
Police acted on a tip-off about illegal cash movement and recovered multiple bags filled with old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, which have been invalid since the 2016 demonetisation drive.
Several people found with the bags of discontinued notes were detained from the spot, police sources said. Two vehicles suspected to have been used for transporting the cash were also seized.
Officers said the origin of the money and the network behind the operation are now under investigation. The detained individuals are being questioned to trace the source of the currency. Further probe is underway.
