New Delhi: Delhi University’s Academic Council (AC) has approved the introduction of a one-year postgraduate (PG) programme under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This programme will be available from 2026 to graduates of the university’s four-year undergraduate courses, while students with a three-year undergraduate degree can continue with the two-year PG programme.

Under the new structure, students in the one-year programme will earn 44 credits, while the two-year programme will require 88 credits. The proposal has been incorporated into the “Postgraduate Curriculum Framework 2024” (PGCF 2024), which was approved during the council’s 1021st meeting. The resolution will now be presented to the Executive Council for final approval.

The council also approved additional supernumerary seats in postgraduate programmes for single girl students, aiming to provide enhanced opportunities for female candidates.

From the 2025-26 academic session, Delhi University plans to increase seats in specialised courses, including DM (Neuroanaesthesia) at GIPMER and BSc (Medical Technology) Radiology at Lady Hardinge Medical College, subject to regulatory clearances.

Additionally, the council has given the green light to introduce a PhD programme in Hindu Studies and announced plans to bolster health infrastructure, including the construction of a four-storey DU Health Centre and the affiliation of a railway hospital to provide healthcare to DU employees.

These developments mark a significant step toward aligning the university’s academic and infrastructural offerings with the objectives of NEP 2020.
