New Delhi: A 17-year-old girl from outer Delhi’s Ranhola area died on Tuesday after suffering severe burn injuries, while a man was discovered hanging in a nearby house within hours, police said. Both deaths are being investigated to determine whether the incidents are connected.
According to officials, the girl reportedly set herself ablaze following an argument with her family. She was rushed to the hospital with critical burns but succumbed during treatment.
In a separate but nearby location, police found the body of a man who appeared to have died by suicide. His identity has not been linked to the girl and officers have dismissed claims suggesting a relationship between the two.
A senior police officer said crime scene units have examined both sites and collected forensic samples. Statements from relatives and neighbours are also being recorded as part of the inquiry.
“The circumstances behind the girl’s death and the man’s suicide are being probed from all possible angles,” the officer said, adding that post-mortem examinations will help establish the cause of death in both cases.
Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation to piece together the sequence of events leading to the two deaths.
