Delhi Police have dismantled a syndicate facilitating the illegal immigration of Bangladeshi nationals into India, arresting four individuals. Among those apprehended are an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant couple and two Indian nationals who provided transport and forged documents.
The arrests are part of an intensified crackdown on illegal immigrants in the national capital. The 28-year-old Bangladeshi man was taken into custody on December 28 from Aya Nagar following leads from seven other Bangladeshi immigrants arrested earlier that day near Arjangarh Metro Station. Upon interrogation, the man disclosed his wife’s involvement, leading to her arrest in Gurugram the same day.
The accused revealed the syndicate’s methods and routes, enabling the police to track down Aminur Ishlam, an Indian transporter from Goalpara, Assam. Ishlam reportedly moved illegal immigrants from Baghmara, a border district in Meghalaya, to railway stations in Assam. He was apprehended at the Damra out-checkpost in Assam and later brought to Delhi on a transit remand.
Further investigation uncovered Gurugram-based Ashish Mehra’s role in forging documents for illegal immigrants. Mehra admitted during questioning that the Bangladeshi couple’s illegal entry was facilitated by the man’s brother, who smuggled them into India via Meghalaya’s border in 2022.
The couple was transported to Assam and later to Delhi before reaching Gurugram, where they obtained fake identification documents, including Aadhaar cards, through Mehra and his associate, an authorised Aadhaar operator at a bank. The fake documents were crucial in establishing their false identities.
