Delhi Police arrest three, including live-in partner, for killing UPSC aspirant found charred in flat
New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested three people, including the live-in partner of a 32-year-old UPSC aspirant, for his murder in the Gandhi Vihar area. The charred body of the victim, identified as Ramkesh Meena, was found inside his apartment earlier this month.
According to police sources, the arrested accused include a 21-year-old BSc Forensic Science student, her former boyfriend and another associate – all residents of Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Investigators said the woman, who was living with Meena, conspired with the two men to kill him. After strangling him, they allegedly set the body on fire to make it appear as an accidental fire.
Police received information on October 6 about a fire in a fourth-floor flat, initially believed to be caused by an air conditioner blast. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and found Meena’s body inside. A case was registered, and investigation began.
CCTV footage from the building showed two men with covered faces entering the premises late on the night of October 5. Around 2:57 am, a woman was seen leaving with one of them, shortly before the fire broke out.
Suspicion grew when the woman’s call records placed her near the crime scene. She was tracked down and arrested from Moradabad on October 18, and later confessed to the crime, naming her two accomplices.
Police said the woman told investigators that Meena had recorded her objectionable videos and refused to delete them. She confided in her ex-boyfriend, who then plotted to kill Meena.
The trio allegedly strangled Meena before pouring oil, ghee and liquor on the body. The ex-boyfriend, an LPG distributor, then opened a gas cylinder and set the flat ablaze, causing an explosion. They fled with Meena’s laptop, hard disk and other valuables.
Police later recovered the stolen items, including two mobile phones, a trolley bag and the victim’s shirt. Further investigation into the case is underway.
