New Delhi: A 59-year-old man has been arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell for allegedly engaging in espionage activities and maintaining links with a foreign-based nuclear scientist, officials said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Adil Hussaini, who also went by the aliases Syed Adil Hussain, Nasimuddin and Syed Adil Hussaini, was apprehended from Seemapuri two days ago, police said.
According to investigators, Hussaini, a resident of Tata Nagar in Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), had travelled to several countries including Pakistan and was part of a fake passport racket operating out of Jamshedpur.
“Adil and his brother Akhtar Hussaini are suspected of leaking sensitive information to foreign entities and obtaining multiple Indian passports using forged documents,” said additional commissioner of police (Special Cell) Pramod Kushwah.
Police sources revealed that Adil had managed to obtain three identity cards of a sensitive government installation using fake documents. During a raid, officers recovered one genuine and two forged passports from his possession.
He was booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), 318 (cheating), 338 (forgery of valuable securities, wills, etc.), and 340 (use of forged documents) and arrested on October 26, Kushwah said.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police have also arrested Adil’s brother Akhtar, who had reportedly travelled to multiple Gulf nations and was involved in obtaining fake IDs.
Investigating teams are now tracking how many individuals may have received forged passports and IDs through this network.
Adil was produced in court and remanded to seven days’ police custody for further interrogation.
