The 19th Annual Athletic Meet of Ravenshaw University being inaugurated by Prof Dharmabrata Mohapatra, vice chancellor (in-charge).
Cuttack: Deepu Kisku and Ambika Golari emerged as the standout performers on the opening day of the 19th Annual Athletic Meet of Ravenshaw University, clinching multiple top positions across events, here on Monday.
In the men’s category, Deepu Kisku secured first place in the 800m and 1500m races, while also finishing third in the 400m event. Om Prakash Behera won the 400m race and the 110m hurdles. Rabindra Hikaka bagged gold in triple jump, and Ashish Roshan Dungdung topped the shot put event. Asish Dungdung claimed first place in discus throw, while Arjun Kirsani won gold in javelin. In the men’s long jump, Ananta Hembram secured the top spot.
Among women athletes, Ambika Golari delivered an impressive performance, winning gold in the 400m and 1500m races, and also finishing second in the 100m hurdles. Puspabati Kisku also stood out, securing first place in long jump, discus throw and 100m hurdles. Sruti Prabha Behera won the 200m race and finished second in long jump, while Sandhya Rani Sahoo claimed gold in shot put. In other events, Koushalya Majhi topped the javelin throw and Ambika GulerI secured first position in the 800m race.
Earlier in the day, the meet was inaugurated at the university’s athletic ground by Prof Dharmabrata Mohapatra, vice chancellor (in-charge), who lit the ceremonial flame. Registrar Kanhu Charan Mallik was present on the occasion. Om Prakash Behera administered the oath on behalf of the athletes. Several faculty members attended the event. The meet was conducted by Dr Anjan Kumar Khuntia, physical education officer, with coordination by Mahesh Kumar Malla, Kalinga Kumar Das and Laxmipriya Rout.
