Cuttack Blue defeated Cuttack Red on penalties to win the Debabrat Kar and Sk Yunus Memorial Women’s Football tournament, held at Bidanasi ground, Cuttack on Sunday.
In the finals, both the teams scored two goals each in the regulation time, taking the game to a penalty shootout to decide the winner.
An award for best player was given after each match, and the winners were: Sunita Swain, Priyadarsini Behera, Summan Pragyan Mohapatra, Soni Behera, Shila Singh, Sabrin Nisha and Monalisha Nayak.
The best goalkeeper award went to Swetapadma Sahoo, best defender was Lipa Nayak, best mid-fielder and forward recognition went to Summan Pragyan Mohapatra and Arati Nayak, respectively. The tournament’s most promising player award was presented to Priyadarsini Behera.
The seven-a-side tournament was organised by City Womens Football Club, where players from Cuttack only participated, with four teams competing against each other in a two-day event.
The winner’s trophy was presented by Krushna Chandra Behera, former Santosh Trophy Player (1967) and vicepresident of CDAA, Bhakta Ballav Das, working president, CDAA & Treasurer, FAO, was also present during the presentation ceremony.
Aparajita Das, Kailash Sahoo, Biswaranjan Ghadei, Md. Shahid Jabbar, Birendra Behera, Kartik Behera, Hrushikesh Behera and Sahadev Rout were the other guests present during the final.
Sanjib Das, Jyotiranjan Swain, Sultana Parveen, Sk Mokim, Sk. Hayat and Bholanath Mahakud were the referees for the matches played in the tournament.
