Cuttack: Couple sentenced for kidnap, rape of 10-year-old girl

Cuttack: A man and his wife have been sentenced by a court in Odisha’s Cuttack for kidnapping and raping a 10-year-old girl.

Amit Bindhani, 45, was sentenced to imprisonment till death while the court sent Asha Lohar to jail for 20 years.

The prosecution said the couple had kidnapped the girl from a slum here, and then took her to Jamshedpur in Jharkhand.

According to the prosecution, Bindhani raped the girl repeatedly for nearly eight days before the couple was apprehended by police and the child was rescued.

The incident happened in 2019 as POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court on Saturday sentenced Bindhani and his wife, PTI reported.

Before the conviction was announced, the court examined 12 witnesses and over 20 exhibits.

As reported by PTI, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Asha and in case of non-payment she will have to spend another six months in prison. The court also directed a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to be given to the girl.
