Nagothane: Maharashtra seized firm control of their Cooch Behar Trophy (U19) clash against Odisha after two days of play, posting a commanding 528 in their first innings at the Reliance Cricket Ground.

Odisha, who won the toss and elected to field, ended Day 2 at 134/3 in 30 overs, still facing an uphill task despite a steady start to their first innings.

Earlier, Maharashtra ended the opening day strongly at 299/5, courtesy of impressive innings from Jashan Singh (102 off 187) and Suashik Jagtap (48* off 101). The pair frustrated the Odisha attack with composed knocks and laying the foundation for what would become a mammoth total.

For Odisha, Arpit Mohanty (3/72) and Raaz Yadav (2/45) were the only wicket-takers on Day 1.

Resuming on 299/5, Maharashtra capitalised brilliantly, with Suashik Jagtap converting his overnight score into a superb 117 off 206 balls, featuring 13 fours and a six. His composed innings anchored the lower order, pushing Maharashtra to a formidable 528.

Jashan Singh’s century from Day 1 remained equally crucial as the top order’s stability allowed Maharashtra to dominate the proceedings.

Odisha’s bowlers toiled hard, with Arpit Mohanty finishing with 5/153 in 38 overs, while Raaz Yadav supported with figures of 2/93.

In reply, Odisha’s innings began with positive intent. Swagat Sourav Mishra struck a fluent 42 off 38 balls, hammering nine boundaries and scoring at over a run a ball. BiswaJeet Pradhan remained unbeaten on 28 off 65, trying to stabilise the innings as wickets fell around him.

For Maharashtra, Abhinandan Adak (1/21) and Arqam Syed (1/14) bowled tight spells early on, keeping Odisha under pressure. Odisha closed Day 2 at 134/3, still trailing by 394 runs.
