Mumbai: A 33-year-old college professor was stabbed to death at Malad railway station in Mumbai’s western suburbs on Saturday evening, police said.
The victim, identified as Alok Kumar Singh, was travelling on a local train from Vile Parle to Kandivali when the incident took place around 5.40 pm. Singh was a faculty member at NM College in Vile Parle and lived in Kandivali.
According to the Government Railway Police, Singh reportedly got into a heated argument with a fellow passenger during the journey. As the train arrived at Malad station, the situation escalated. The co-passenger allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and attacked him.
Singh collapsed on the platform after being stabbed, while the assailant fled the scene. Fellow commuters immediately alerted the authorities.
Railway police rushed to the spot and shifted Singh to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The Borivali Government Railway Police have registered a case of murder against an unidentified person based on preliminary findings. Police teams are examining CCTV footage and gathering information to trace the accused, who remains at large.
